A weekend in Broadbeach.
The concierge's Saturday-to-Sunday plan: market breakfast, the flagged stretch of sand, a hinterland option, and where exactly to stand for the sunset.
By The concierge desk
Saturday: the coast
08:00 — market breakfast at the Broadbeach foreshore markets if it's the first or third Saturday; otherwise the café two doors up. 10:00 — the flagged beach at Kurrawa, before the northerly builds.
14:00 — the tram to Pacific Fair if shopping is on the list, or the walk south to the rock pools if it isn't. 18:30 — sunset from the west terrace or the level 21 deck; the hinterland light is the reason the bar exists.
Everyone photographs the ocean. The sunset here faces the hills — stand on the west terrace at 18:30 and the whole hinterland turns.
Dinner on the strip at 20:00 — the raw bar if you booked ahead, the ramen counter if you didn't.
Sunday: the hills option
Sleep in, breakfast until 10:30. Then the choice: beach again, or the hinterland — 45 minutes inland gets you the lookout, waterfalls and a winery that pours from 11:00.
The desk books the small-group tours or maps the drive. Either way, be back by 16:00 — the light over the coast on the drive down is the day's second sunset.
Checkout is 11:00 but bags hold free — the last beach hour happens unencumbered.
Weekend rules
Market Saturdays
First and third of the month, on the foreshore.
Book dinner Friday
Saturday tables on the strip go early.
Sunset faces west
The ocean view at dusk is dark blue; the hills are where the colour is.
If it rains
The hinterland works in light rain — the waterfalls improve. Heavy rain: Pacific Fair, the casino floor, and the spa's thermal circuit.
Either way, the desk reshuffles the plan in five minutes. That's the whole job.
